Cascadia celebrates retirement of Derald Walker, longtime CEO

Party brings together community to recognize his leadership, legacy

Friends, family, and local leaders gathered in May to celebrate the retirement of Cascadia Health’s longtime Chief Executive Officer, Derald Walker. Derald retired this spring after 17 years leading the organization.

Derald has led Cascadia since 2008. His unwavering commitment to the community has helped guide Cascadia through transformation and growth, strengthening its foundation of resilience and perseverance in the local healthcare system. This spring, in anticipation of Derald’s retirement, Cascadia selected James Schroeder to lead as its new CEO. Visit our Leadership page to learn more about James.

At the party for Derald, colleagues and long-time friends of Derald shared stories and lessons learned from their time together. They expressed their appreciation for Derald’s leadership, commitment to solutions during difficult times, and steadfast support to the people Cascadia serves.

Attendees—who included local leaders in government and healthcare, Cascadia Health Board of Directors members, staff members, and former colleagues—enjoyed a space of reflection and celebration. Music was provided by Oregon Symphony violin players and Ashleigh Flynn.

Cascadia thanks Northwest Natural for hosting the event, and providing space, beverages, and catering.
