Cascadia’s Paula Reese awarded for service at airport BH unit

Paula Reese, a Cascadia clinician with the Port of Portland Behavioral Health Unit at Portland International Airport (PDX), has received the PDX People Customer Service Award.

The quarterly awards recognize airport employees who go above and beyond to create a welcoming, supportive experience for travelers while demonstrating PDX’s core values of being friendly, knowledgeable, and respectful.

Paula was recognized alongside airport employees Phil Cox and Melissa Beal after helping a mother and daughter navigate a difficult situation at the airport. According to the nomination, the daughter was experiencing significant fear and anxiety about leaving the secure area. After airport staff reached out for assistance, Paula joined the response, bringing her expertise and calm support to the family.

Working together with patience, creativity, and compassion, the team helped the family make their way through the airport and safely reach their destination. At one point, the mother suggested singing “We’re Off to See the Wizard,” and the group sang together as they continued their journey.

In the award nomination, the employee wrote:

Phil, Melissa, and Paula brought empathy and expertise as they helped the passengers all the way to the Rental Car Center.

Kudos to the incredibly patient, knowledgeable, respectful, and creative service you all provided!

This recognition reflects the compassion and expertise the Port of Portland Behavioral Health Unit bring to their work every day. Congratulations, Paula, and thank you for your amazing work, serving community members in need!
