Oregon Health Plan changes

Starting January 2027, new federal rules will affect some adult Oregon Health Plan (Medicaid) members. Below is more information about these changes, and where to go for help.

Cascadia Health is here for you.

Please know that no matter what your insurance status is, you can get the care you need at Cascadia.

We accept most insurance coverage, including all Oregon Health Plan, Medicare, and most private insurance. We can also help you understand your coverage options. In addition, whether or not you have insurance, you may qualify for discounts based on your family size and income through Cascadia’s Self-Pay program.

Did you get a letter from the Oregon Health Plan?

If you get a letter, open it and read it. Many OHP members will get a letter about new work requirements that begin January 2027.

If you get a letter about the new work requirements, you don’t have to do anything today. Getting a letter does not mean you will lose coverage.

The letters are meant to help people understand upcoming changes and prepare for future renewals. OHP will notify you if and when you need to take action.

Keep your contact information up to date!

The best thing you can do right now is make sure OHP has your current mailing address, email address, and phone number to ensure you get important updates, renewal notices, or instructions from OHP. Visit benefits.oregon.gov to update your contact information and report any changes.

What are the changes to OHP?

Some adult OHP members may have to meet new work requirements beginning in 2027. Many people may already meet the requirements or are exempt. The requirements say that you must:

  • Work 80 hours per month OR earn at least $580 per month (before taxes)
  • Be in school, training, or work program
  • Volunteer or other approved activity

These changes do NOT apply to you if you are:

  • A child (0-18)
  • An adult age 65 or older
  • Pregnant (or were pregnant in the last 12 months)
  • A caregiver to a child under 14
  • A caregiver to someone of any age with a serious or disabling health condition
  • A foster youth up to age 26
  • American Indian or Alaska Native
  • Blind, disabled, or get Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Receiving SNAP (and work rules apply), or you already meet work rules for TANF
  • In jail or prison

In addition to work requirements, other changes include eligibility changes for some immigrants (starting October 2026), and more frequent renewals (every 6 months for most adults, instead of every 2 years) starting in late 2027. These and other planned changes start at different times.
