Grand Opening Event: Centennial Place Apartments

Cascadia Health’s Newest Unit of Affordable and Supportive Housing Opens in East Portland

Portland, OR – This week, Cascadia Health celebrates the official grand opening of its newest affordable and supportive housing unit, Centennial Place Apartments.

Located in the heart of East Portland, Cascadia Health will welcome current residents, honored guests and neighbors to Centennial Place for the ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, June 8. The event will include remarks from Multnomah County Commissioner Lori Stegmann and Centennial School District Superintendent James Owens, as well as Cascadia Health building partners, funders, and leadership.

“Centennial Place is something we can all be proud of,” said Derald Walker, PhD, President and CEO of Cascadia Health. “This is more than just a building, it is a home to more than 120 individuals and families and acts as an important resource in supporting the community through affordable housing and integrated care, as well as featuring environmentally sustainable amenities that benefit the health of everyone.”

Cascadia Health first broke ground on Centennial Place in June 2021 and began welcoming residents in October 2022. Modeled on the belief that stable housing is a crucial component of whole health, Centennial Place provides critical affordable housing to East Portland residents.

“We are incredibly proud to work with Cascadia Health to bring these affordable apartments to the community, giving residents a place they can call home,” said Bob Powers, Managing Director, Community Development Banking for Chase. “These high-quality units will increase the local stock of affordable housing and will be transformational to the resident with the addition of supportive services.”

Centennial Place includes 71 units of affordable housing, 18 of which have a rental preference for individuals living with mental illness and who have no or very low income, and 53 units reserved for low-income families with youth who are homeless or at risk of being homeless and who are currently enrolled in the Centennial School District.

All residents have access to Cascadia resources and are served by a full-time community manager who lives onsite, one part-time resident services coordinator, and one part-time peer wellness specialist—each of whom engage residents and connect them to other community resources and promotes a positive and welcoming culture within the building.
