Garlington Health Center Incident
Earlier this morning, Monday, November 27, 2023, a safety specialist at Cascadia Health’s Garlington Health Center was attacked by an individual walking into the health center. The staff was taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect has been detained. There is no longer a threat, and no other patients or staff were physically harmed in the incident.
“As we learn more about today’s incident, we are immensely thankful that our colleague is in stable condition,” said Derald Walker, PhD, President & CEO of Cascadia Health. “Cascadia Health is cooperating with the investigation and will continue to assess the situation. In addition, we will work to address the immediate and ongoing emotional toll and offer support to those involved.”
Garlington Health Center was immediately closed following the incident and will remain closed to the public through Tuesday, November 28. Clients will be informed of any scheduling changes. Authorized staff must use their badge to enter the health center.
Cascadia staff have access to a staff-run Trauma Support Team, Employee Assistance Program, including counseling support, among other resources.
As this is an active investigation, we ask all media to direct questions related to the incident to the Portland Police Bureau.
Garlington Health Center is one of four health centers operated by Cascadia Health, and provides adult outpatient services, recovery support, child and family programs, primary care, supported employment, wellness programs, and more.
