PORTLAND, OR

Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare has been awarded a $200,000 top-off grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust in support of Cascadia’s $14.3 million capital redevelopment of the Garlington Center in NE Portland into a new, integrated health clinic serving people of all ages and offering mental health, addiction support, primary care and wellness services in one location to support a person’s whole health care. Construction on the clinic is currently underway with plans to open April 2018. The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust’s leadership commitment contributes to Cascadia’s $3.5 million Building a Culture of Caring Philanthropic Campaign.

“M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust has taken a leadership role in supporting Cascadia’s new Garlington Health Center, which moves us significantly forward in our goal of providing whole health care to our clients through the clinic’s opening scheduled for April 2018,” said Keith Hyde, Cascadia’s Board Chair and Chief Executive of Providence Milwaukie Hospital. “The Trust’s support is also a vote of confidence in Cascadia’s experienced and dedicated staff who are working tirelessly helping community members and their families in need. I am profoundly grateful for the support of the Trust, our staff, and the larger community as we work together to make whole health care a reality.”

With the top-off grant from the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust, Cascadia has secured $2.8 million in charitable gifts toward the $3.5 million campaign goal. Cascadia is now in the public phase of its 2-year campaign to raise the remaining $690,000 in gifts from the community by the Center’s April 2018 opening.

“We are pleased to be able to support Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare as they impact positive change for the Northeast Portland community,” said Steve Moore, Executive Director of the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. “We look forward to seeing how this unique facility helps address critical mental health needs in the region.”

The Garlington Health Center will anchor one of Oregon’s most innovative community-centered campuses—a place where healing, homes, and hope come together. The campus will also be home to Garlington Place, a new 52-unit affordable housing apartment building, providing Veterans and displaced North/NE Portland community members’ access to affordable housing in NE Portland.

ABOUT CASCADIA BEHAVIORAL HEALTHCARE:
Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare is a private, not-for-profit whose mission is to provide healing, homes and hope for people living with mental health and addiction challenges. For information on Cascadia’s comprehensive range of innovative clinical and housing support programs. www.cascadiabhc.org.

As of April 1, 2017, Cascadia Behavioral Healthcare is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC) and part of a national two-year demonstration project to measure the benefits of expanding the integration of mental, substance use and physical health care. Cascadia’s three CCBHC clinics in Portland will expand this federal designation of services and serve as models for an innovative approach to mental health that treats each patient holistically, leading to improved mental and physical health, lower catastrophic care costs, and reduced stigma surrounding mental health and substance use. This project places Oregon in the national spotlight for health care reform. Oregon was one of just eight states chosen to participate in the two-year program, and Cascadia is one of only 13 organizations selected statewide.
