Cascadia awarded $1.6M+ for housing programs

It’s well understood that Oregon is in a housing crisis. But many of the programs that meaningfully address the issue require steady funding from government partners.

To that end, Cascadia is pleased to announce that our funding through the federal Continuum of Care grant program has been renewed for 2024.

Out of $60 million granted to Oregon as a whole, Cascadia was awarded over $1.6 million. This marks an 8-percent increase over last year. Over the last several years, Cascadia has received Housing and Urban Development (HUD) funding support, renewed on an annual basis. The latest grant award will help us continue this critical work.

Cascadia’s HUD-Funded Housing Program & Housing Outreach Team

HUD Continuum of Care programs support the permanent supportive housing needs of people experiencing chronic homelessness in our community. Using a Housing First approach, Cascadia’s HUD-funded permanent supportive housing (PSH) projects serve 100 households with tenant-based rental assistance and supportive housing services.

Cascadia’s housing outreach team (HOT) serves single adults and couples without children, many with multiple health conditions including substance use disorders, mental illness, cognitive disabilities, and chronic health conditions. Participants are supported in scattered-site, rent-reasonable units throughout Multnomah County. Our support services include counseling, case management, medication management, and peer support services. These help clients with housing and health stability.

The HOT team operates as a fully mobile mental health outpatient program with services offered in participants’ homes and in the community. The HUD funding pays for client rent and program staffing. The annual funding helps with paying client rent in a housing market that is unaffordable for most residents.

Cascadia is thankful for our partners and staff. We applaud the work of the Housing Outreach Team and their dedicated work serving vulnerable individuals with permanent housing and support with their health and wellbeing.
