Intern at Cascadia
Cascadia Health’s internships are for individuals interested in careers in community-based integrated healthcare. Internships are designed to provide mentorship, experiential learning, opportunities to develop new skills, and exposure to nonprofit management. Some interns will have specific job roles while others will have project-based responsibilities. While interns work under the direction of a single supervisor, they may have the opportunity to work with people throughout the agency.
As an intern, you’ll have:
- Cascadia orientation
- Exposure to various departments/divisions within Cascadia
- Access to training and workshops on topics including Mental Health First Aid, Gender 101, Trauma-Informed Care
In an effort to address the significant barriers that students may face in unpaid internships, provide students with equitable access to developmental opportunities, and to demonstrate to the up-and-coming workforce that we value our student interns, Cascadia offers paid internships (if allowed by their educational institution’s policies). This policy also enables current Cascadia staff to pursue continued education within the agency while continuing to be compensated for their work and internship hours.
Eligibility
All internships must be formally established with a university/college/training program within the community via an affiliation agreement/contract with Cascadia. If your university/college is not listed below and would like to partner with Cascadia for internship placements, please contact peopleandculture@cascadiahealth.org.

Requirements and Expectations
In order to be considered for an internship, each individual must:
- Be able to earn academic credit/satisfy a degree requirement through the internship.
- Follow and adhere to Cascadia’s confidentiality requirements, including the federal Health Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), Cascadia’s client confidentiality policies, and Oregon laws that support client confidentiality.
- Demonstrate a commitment to helping underserved members of our communities.
-
Pass a criminal background check through Oregon’s Department of Human Services (at no cost to the student). Placement at Cascadia is contingent upon this background check. Prior to receiving the results of the background check, interns might still participate in orientation, training, and work activities that do not include unsupervised contact with those receiving services. Students disqualified by their background check will be immediately removed from their placement. A student’s placement may be reinstated if the Department of Human Services reverses the disqualification upon appeal.
- Complete Cascadia’s onboarding process, including agency orientation and student/intern documentation (if accepted into the internship program).
